zombie stomper heel

These shoes are too much!  Totally love them.  Too scared to wear them, mind you.  But love them all the same.

All you horror junkies out there can get your Iron Fist “Zombie Stompers” here or here.

vans-shoes-sk8-hi-robots

I am in total love with these Vans Sk8-Hi with robots!  Now, admittedly, I’ve never really gotten into high-tops.  But add multi-coloured robots, and I am totally there.  The bummer is they’re made partly with leather, so no robots for me!  But on the plus side, these are totally motivating me to learn how to silkscreen. :)

You can check out these robot-tastic shoes on SoleStruck, here.

Check out these shoes!  I have no idea who the designer is.  Normally I am not too keen on ankle boots but these are mesmerizing.  I totally love/hate them.  Wish there were a side shot too.

page-a-day-shoe-calendar

One of my favourite parts of starting a new year is cracking open a new page-a-day shoe calendar.  The Shoe Gallery Collection is a year-long celebration of shoes.  Images come from “an extraordinary private collection, as well as artists’ archives, museums, and the hottest runway shows.”

So many shoes are absolute works of art, and many of these I would never see outside a museum.  The shoes range from way old historical stuff, to funky 60s styles, to wacky, whimsical, or just plain stunning contemporary pieces.  And of course, there’s always some fug thrown in there.  It’s like a new little piece of art on my desk every day.

disco-ball-shoes

Happy New Year everyone…hope it’s a wonderful year full of fabulous shoes.

(p.s., these crazy disco ball shoes can be found here)

This summer I switched jobs and ended up working in a team with a much higher ratio of women to men, and with a female boss. I noticed right away that there were a lot of great shoes being worn around the office, and it just seemed like the climate was a little more feminine and fun when it came to fashion.

Now, I’ve often felt kind of ridiculous (not to mention a great deal of shopping guilt) at having such a pile of fun shoes at home and not wearing most of them.  But I knew that I couldn’t be the only one.

So we gals at the office instituted “Fabu Shoe Day” – every Monday, we each wear a fun pair of shoes that we wouldn’t normally wear. Here’s a shot of our toes all together sporting our fabu shoes one of our Mondays:

(My toe is the red one – a pair of great heels that I posted about a while ago but still had never worn!)

Since we started Fabu Shoe Day, I’ve worn a different pair of shoes pretty much every Monday, most of which I had never worn before.  And there’s also the concurrent benefit that this necessitates experimenting a lot more with my wardrobe, thus I’m wearing a lot of clothes that had been languishing in my closet too.  Not only is this helping to alleviate the shopping guilt, but it’s actually helping me to pare down my closet a bit.

And one more benefit…with Mondays having such a bad rap, it’s great to start out the week with a quick gathering to “Ooh” and “Ahh” over each others’ fabu shoes. :)

Speaking of whimsy, don’t these Westwood creations make you feel like you’ve just fallen down the rabbit hole?

I absolutely love the black and white pair with green ribbon ties.  Fabulous.

But as with the blue ones, interesting though they may look, I can’t imagine that these are meant to be walked in!

Now these may be a little more feasible for actual wear.  I love, LOVE, these red shoes…love the white flower print…love the multiple straps…love the shape of the heel and toe.  Gorgeous!

I love Best of Craigslist.  It is always good for a giggle.  Recently, an ad called “Looking for my sole-mate” caught my eye.  I thought it must be some amusing foot fetishist personals ad, but instead, it was a longing plea from “Right Shoe”, who had tragically lost their sole mate – “Left Shoe” – in a terrible skydiving incident.  Hightlights:

My name is Right Shoe. I am a right shoe – Skechers circa 2003. I lost my “sole” mate on Saturday in Otay Mesa. His name was Left Shoe.

You see, my owner, Left Shoe, and I were skydiving together, and as the chute opened, Left Shoe, my partner of 5 years, went flying away. I knew this would happen… I tried to tell my owner to tie us better, but he just wouldn’t listen. (My owner has been learning how to speak Shoe… but talking to him is mostly like talking to a brick wall)

Left Shoe and I have been inseparable these past few years, ever since we got identical Made In China tattoos. It’s like we were made for each other; we were even the same size & color, and we enjoyed the same activities. We traveled everywhere together, and we were even planning on going to Japan together in September.

Aww…now there is love, ladies and gentlemen.  P.s., I found that absolutely adorable shoe photo on super cool knitting blog Coiled, for those who love to knit (a skill I totally admire in people…gotta learn to knit!)

A while back at Ladyfest’s “Not Your Grandma’s Craft Sale” here in Ottawa, I spotted some super cool pumps with hand-painted creatures on them.  These are the work and play of Montreal artist Tyson Bodnarchuk.

There are three things I love about Tyson’s shoe creations.  One, they’re whimsical and fun, on a level that is such a departure from even the most funky store-bought shoes.  Two, he uses a fantastic colour palette.  And three, he’s painting on vintage shoes, which in addition to being funky looking, also tend to have a more forgiving heel.  I also think that they must be reclaimed, which makes them all the better.

Tyson and his other half are the creative minds behind Headquarters Galerie & Boutique in Montreal.  The site describes his style as:

…influenced by 50`s-60`s sci-fi films and comics, rock and roll and Jim Henson. Using acrylic on many different surfaces, Tyson creates art that begs to be touched, often with a humorous yet macabre edge. These robots, monsters and imaginary characters pop off the background with bright colours and exaggerated features. Wrap this up in a glossy toy-like finish, and you have the embodiment of the artists work.

On his Etsy profile, Tyson says that he enjoys painting monsters, robots, villains and evil creatures inspired by everyday people on the street, bus or subway.  After looking at the creatures he paints, I start to see the colourful characters on the bus morph into snakes with stunned eyes or loud screaming little blue monsters.

I didn’t manage to bring home a pair of his shoes when I first saw them, but you can bet I’ll be looking for them in the future.  You can peruse his Etsy shop, if you dare (Etsy is SO ADDICTIVE).

See more pictures of his work after the jump. Continue reading »

Racy “coolhunting” blog Reverse Cowgirl posted about this sensible invention, which can be found at stripper shoe emporium FunkyPair: lucite stripper heels that function as a tip jar. Hey, if you’re going to be dancing on a 3-inch hollow platform, you may as well make like IKEA and add a clever dual function in there.

Bonus: keep the drunken, leering masses away from your g-string!
