Hello everyone. My name is Katie and I’m a shoeaholic.

I’m not sure how it came to this. It started innocently enough, hiking boots and prom shoes. Comfortable sandals that stayed strapped to my feet until the frost froze them off. Practical shoes. Yet, over time, I started to really, really love shoes. My heart would flutter every time I passed a shoe store, my eyes transfixed on the display in the window. “Ooh, these ones are so fabulous! Eww, those ones are so fug!” I was hooked. There’s just something about a good shoe that mesmerizes and thrills me.

My friends are baffled by my love of shoes. No one ever suspects it when they meet me, you see, because I’m a bookish, practical type. An environmentalist, a wish-I-were-a minimalist, a public transit user. I never take my fun shoes out on the town, because alas, it’s hard to run for the bus in stilettos. People have trouble comprehending how ’someone like me’ would have a closet packed full of weird and crazy shoes, carefully stored and displayed. It’s my guilty pleasure, decadent chocolate for my feet.

Friends who know my secret always remark “you have all these shoes, but you never wear them!” And I’ve always thought it was a shame to keep my darlings all boxed up in the closet like that. So I’ve decided to break them free and wear them, at least virtually; to try my foot at blogging.

Hopefully the next step will be to develop some kind of social life in between work and grad school, and take these shoes out on the town.

I like shoes too, but not as much as I like perfume. I think I feel the same way about perfume as you feel about shoes, and like you, my friends would NEVER guess what perfumaholic and smell snob I used to be. Unfortunately I’m wearing them less and less now as I’m more sensitive to them. Hmm maybe that’s a sign I should switch over to the shoe side…
